Happy Birthday, H.P. Lovecraft!

"I couldn’t live a week without a private library - indeed, I’d part with all my furniture
and squat and sleep on the floor before I’d let go of the 1500 or so books I possess."

Howard Phillips Lovecraft - Born August 20th, 1890

Howard Phillips Lovecraft - Born August 20th, 1890

“At night, when the objective world has slunk back into its cavern and left dreamers to
their own, there come inspirations and capabilities impossible at any less magical and quiet hour. No one knows whether or not he is a writer unless he has tried writing at night.”

J.R.R. Tolkien - Born January 3rd, 1892

 Portrait Art by Audrey Benjaminsen

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.

John Ronald Reuel Tolkien

Cthuhlu For Kids and Other Alternate Horrors

Celebrate H.P. Lovecraft's Birthday with tentacle inspired fan art mash-ups.

Dr FaustusAU has cleverly re-imagined the Call of Cthulhu as a kids book in the
style of Dr Seuss. These are few sample pages but you can view the entire book here.

He's also begun adapting The Tomb here.

And here are a couple more alt art takes on the Lovecraftian Mythos

Sean Hartter's groovy book cover make-over for The Mountains of Madness
and a poster for one of the coolest movies you'll never see...

...which in some alternate universe plays in an epic double feature with this film!

Artist unknown via The Lovecraftsman.

And almost forgot Muzki's homage to Herge - Tintin Meets Lovecraft covers.
